Let the Truth Be Told

Life is just a chance to grow a soul

Notes

Books I’m planning on reading…starting…NOW

THE MANDELA MANUAL by Richard Stengel

Can you believe that this year marks the 20th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s release from prison. The book is a collection of 15 lessons the author, Richard Stengel, learned from the venerable leader.

Why I can’t wait to start reading it…the book offers some amazing words to live by from none other than Mr. Nelson Mandela, who is a global symbol of endurance & hope.

THE ALCHEMIST by Paulo Coelho

Because it teaches us to remember & appreciate the things you have in your life (and the very things that are SO IMPORTANT to me): family, love & humility.

THE BLUE SWEATER (Bridging the gap between Rich and Poor in an interconnected world) by Jacqueline Novogratz

I’m actually in the process of finishing up this book which is a captivating and empowering portrait of humanitarianism at work. This book illustrates how a young woman - through courage, curiosity, drive and perserverance - was able to make a difference by taking on the impossible. This is an inspiring account which will open up your heart & mind to the endless possibilities of non-profit work.

This book encourages us to cultivate a free spirit & seek out a life of adventure by stepping out & building a better world. With my next relief aid trip to Haiti already in the works for May, I will certainly apply many of her experiences and advice to my journey to assist the people of Haiti. Jacqueline’s compelling words are shedding a new light into my life by awakening my sense of purpose. I can already see the power & effect that her story has had on me. As a result, I now feel several steps closer to my aspiration of pursuing a life of meaning than I did prior to starting the book.

LUCY by Jamaica Kincaid

My heritage is Caribbean so I am looking forward to reading this book about an island girl who travels to the US in the 60’s. Just as I did several decades later when I moved to NJ, Lucy is trying to find a home in a foreign society & also find her purpose.

NO ONE WRITES TO THE COLONEL & STRANGE PILGRIMS by Gabriel García Márquez

My favorite & one of the most prolific writers of my time…nuff said. These are great collections of short stories & an absolute must read…especially on rainy summer days!
